FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

October 1, 2009

“Leaving on an ethanol powered jet plane.”

“Ethanol powered airliners, luxury tree house hotels, hybrid car rentals, and sail boat cruises are just a few examples of the rapidly increasing options for environmentally conscious travelers.” Says Kathy Beyer-Conrad “Both vacationers and business travelers are changing their travel habits in a bid to help the environment.”

“There are so many options when choosing a hotel or airline, that when price is not a factor, the impact on the environment becomes a critical selling point”, says Kim Moon, a market analyst at Clean Energy Travel, “Tourists and business people are acutely aware of the large carbon-footprint left behind on their travels, and they are increasingly doing what they can to help reduce that footprint.”

But are they doing enough? At any given time, even right now, there are over 4,000 commercial airliners in the air. Those aircraft burn the equivalent of 1/4 of the fuel used by all vehicles globally. This doesn’t even count the energy consumed by hotels and cruise ships.

“Travel is an industry which has not yet reached full maturity” says Kyle Vanderbe, a technician at CEC,”The industry has experienced growth nearly every year since 9/11, and shows no sign of slowing down. The market for world travel has become global, and reaching further corners every season.”

“We’d like to see the large corporations be more proactive in reducing the environmental impact of their businesses.” adds Beyer-Conrad, “More and more corporations are adopting such an approach as they see it as a marketing tool to increase their sales.”

The International Eco-Tourism Society and Clean Energy Travel both agree that travelers should choose businesses that are focused on improving their use of energy when picking their mode of travel and lodging at their destination.

So next time you travel, whether for fun or for work, keep in mind our planet and choose wisely.
